📖 2 min readVerbal noun. - In the Majalla (article 1681): it is the imposition of an oath upon one of the two litigants. Al-Halif: the oath and swearing. In the noble Hadith: "There are three whom Allah will not speak to on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He look at them, nor purify them, and they will have a painful punishment: the one who bestows favors only to remind others of it, the one who sells his merchandise by means of a false oath, and the one who lets his garment hang below his ankles." -: The covenant. Al-Half: the oath. Al-Hilf: the pact of mutual support, assistance, and agreement. (Plural): ahlaf. -: The covenant and the pledge of allegiance. Al-Hallaf: the one who swears frequently. In the Noble Quran: ﴿And do not obey every habitual swearer, contemptible﴾ (Al-Qalam: 10).
It is the act of requiring one of the two litigants to take an oath.
