In language: the masdar of kallafa in the sense of obliging; taklif is thus the imposing of what carries a burden, that is, hardship, and the takalif are hardships, as God Most High says: 'God does not burden a soul beyond its capacity'.
By a command: imposing it on one able to carry it out; commanding what weighs upon man.
The imposing of what carries a burden, not merely the demanding of what carries a burden, in disagreement with al-Baqillani (al-Qadi Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ja'far ibn al-Qasim, known as al-Baqillani al-Basri, celebrated theologian, died 403 AH; Ibn Khallikan, Wafayat al-A'yan, 4/269).
Imposing the burden (kulfa) upon the addressee who is legally obligated (mukallaf).
