Al-trjyḥ according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

The assignment of rank to one of the two proofs over the other.

Al-trjyḥ according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

In language: 'giving excess'; in technical usage: the statement of one of two equals as preferable to the other by reason of a description (wasf), not by reason of a multiplicity of proofs; the description meant is the meaning added to the operative cause (illa), one that has no share in causality and is absent from the other. And tarajjuh is the preference of one of two equals over the other in itself, without a weigher (murajjih).

Al-trjyḥ according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

In language: the excess of the weighed; one says 'the balance inclined (rajahat)': its pan with the weight grew heavy; rajjiha a thing (intensified): he preferred it. As a technical term: the strengthening of one of two proofs by a recognized consideration; it has been said: the increase of clarity in one of the two proofs; and it has been said: the strengthening of one of two conflicting proofs, or the preferring of one of two opposed ones (al-Misbah al-Munir, art. rajah, p. 83; al-Kulliyyat, p. 315; al-Tawqif, p. 170).

Al-trjyḥ according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

The strengthening of one of the two indications over the other, so that it be acted upon.

Al-trjyḥ according to Mu'jam Lughat al-Fuqaha

From rajiha (to outweigh): the preferring of one opinion over another. The terms of preference in a fatwa, in order from strongest to weakest: 'by which the fatwa is given' (bihi yufta), 'the fatwa rests upon it', 'the sounder' (asahh), 'the authentic' (sahih), 'the chosen' (mukhtar), 'the more likely' (ashbah).

Al-trjyḥ according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)

The assignment of rank to one of the two proofs over the other.
