📖 1 min readLike ordering (tartib), but without some of its parts having relation to others by priority and posteriority.
Gathering simple letters and arranging them to form a word.
Broader than ordering, as you know. The cause, among the nine causes preventing derivation according to the grammarians, is the turning of two words like 'Ba'labakk' or more, like 'tabbat shira', into a single word, with no part servant to another. Composition (tarkib) opposed to units is a term's intending, by one of its parts, to signify a part of its meaning. Tarkib is of six kinds, as a poet said.
Like ordering, but without some parts having, in it, relation to others by priority and posteriority.
Synonym of 'ta'lif': making multiple things bear a single name; al-Sayyid said: 'it is like ordering, but without some of its parts having relation to others by priority or posteriority'.
