Definition Al-wfaʾ

Al-wfaʾ according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

It is cleaving to the path of generosity and keeping the covenants of companions.

Al-wfaʾ according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

Cleaving to the path of equity, keeping of covenants, preserving the usages of love and companionship, in secret and openly, in presence and absence. Fine indeed are the poet's words.

Al-wfaʾ according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

The opposite of treachery; one says: 'he kept the covenant with wafa'' : that is, he observed it and held to it. Al-Ahmad Bakri defined it: cleaving to the path of equity, keeping of covenants, preserving the usages of love and companionship, in secret and openly, in presence and absence. Al-Manawi said: cleaving to the path of generosity and keeping the covenants of companions; wafa' in debts and obligations comes in the sense of payment. And sale of wafa': the seller sells the goods to the buyer at the price of his debt, on condition that, once the debt is paid, the goods return to him. (Al-Qamus al-Muhit, p. 1731; Dastur al-'Ulama', 3/460; al-Tawqif, p. 729; Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Iqtisadiyya, p. 352).
