📖 2 min readThe severing of hope and the absence of any expectation of a thing. Al-ya's: the age at which menstruation ceases from the woman so she becomes barren. Al-ya's also: despairing of Allah's mercy, forbidden in the strictest way. Benefit: Abu al-Baqa' said: every ya's in the Quran means despair, except that in al-Ra'd, which means knowing; he intends His saying: "Have not those who believe known that, were Allah willing, He would have guided all mankind?".
The ascertaining that a thing will not be: it is the contrary of hope. [Section of the ba]
The contrary of hope; severing hope in life; what is intended by it is the hardship and terrors of death.
﴿وَزَكَرِيَّا وَيَحْيَىٰ وَعِيسَىٰ وَإِلْيَاسَ ۖ كُلٌّۭ مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ﴾
« And Zechariah and John and Jesus and Elias - and all were of the righteous. »
Surah الأنعام : 85
﴿وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ﴾
« And indeed, Elias was from among the messengers, »
Surah الصافات : 123
﴿سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِلْ يَاسِينَ﴾
« "Peace upon Elias." »
