Definition Aṣḥab al-ḥdyth

Aṣḥab al-ḥdyth according to Mu'jam Lughat al-Fuqaha

The jurists of the hadith scholars (muhaddithun), such as Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla and al-Sha'bi; most of the people of hadith were Hijazis.

Aṣḥab al-ḥdyth according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)

They are the people of the Hijaz, those who devoted themselves to the prophetic hadith and resorted to opinion (ra'y) and analogy (qiyas) only rarely.
