Astbqwa according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

Istabaqu towards this: to race against one another. In the Noble Quran: 'For each is a direction towards which he turns. So race (istabiqu) in good deeds. Wherever you may be, Allah will bring you all together. Indeed Allah is over all things competent' (Al-Baqarah, 148). As-sabaq: that upon which the competitors stake. In the noble hadith: 'There is no racing except in a sabat (shoe), a hoof or an iron blade,' and the intent is that the gift and prize are deserved only in the racing of horses, camels and archery. As-sabq: the competition. As-sabqah: the sabaq.
