Definition At-tawhid

At-tawhid according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

In language: the judgment that a thing is one, and the knowledge that it is one. In the usage of the People of Truth: stripping the Divine Reality of all that can be conceived by understandings or imagined by illusions and minds.

At-tawhid according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

Three things: knowing Allah, the Most High, by His Lordship, affirming His oneness, and negating any equals to Him altogether.

At-tawhid according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

In language (in Persian: "to make one" and "to describe as one"). The science of tawhid is the science by which one knows that no existence exists outside Allah, the Most High, and that things are but His manifestations and fields of appearance. The muwahhidun (unitarians) are a community that sees nothing but the Truth, exalted be His majesty and His proof, and know of no existence besides the Truth, the Most High, whose very reality is Allah, glorified be He.

In the usage of the People of Truth: stripping the Divine Reality of all that can be conceived by understandings or imagined by illusions and minds; and these are three things: knowing Allah, the Most High, by His Lordship, affirming His oneness, and negating any equals to Him altogether. (Al-Jurjani) Among the Ibadis: affirmation by the heart and declaration by the tongue; or: the affirmation of the heart. Among the Mu'tazila: what they believed concerning the negation of the Divine Attributes.
