Idgham according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

Lexically: entering a thing into a thing; said: I idgham’d the clothes into the vessel entering them therein. In morphology’s art: muting the first letter and merging it into the second; the first called adghama, the second adghama fiha. Said: letting the letter in its articulation point the span of two letters, as madd and ’add.

Idgham according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

Lexically: entering a thing into a thing; said: I idgham’d the garment in the vessel putting it therein, and idgham’d the bit in the horse putting it in its mouth. In morphology’s art: coming with two letters, first silent, second voiced, of one articulation point without separation. In ach-Chafiya: idgham is coming with two letters, silent then voiced, of one articulation point without separation. He said two letters for idgham conceivable only in two; the first’s muteness needed for its joining the second: voiced, a transition interposes and it joins not. The second must too be voiced, manifesting the first: the silent letter as the dead, not showing itself, how show another? Said: letting the letter in its articulation point the span of two letters, as madd and wa’ad.
