📖 2 min readSo-and-so, in wound: having split him; he, she wounded; plural jarha. Said: I wounded him by tongue: insulted, blamed. Wounding the witness: challenging him, rejecting his word. Of the thing: earning it; in the noble Quran: « and He knows what you earned by day » (al-An’am 60). Said: so-and-so wounded for his folks: earning for them. So-and-so wounded: the wound struck him. His testimony and version wounded. So-and-so: oft wounded. The witness, among the Hanafis: showing what breaks uprightness, not testimony with uprightness. Among the Hanbalites: challenging by what bars testimony’s acceptance. Among the Ibadites: relating to a grave fault with confessing or believing he committed it before, testimony still permitted. Al-jourh: the body’s split; plural jrouh, jarah; in the noble Quran: « and the wounds: requital » (al-Ma’ida 48), specific to what is besides face and head, what is therein called chajja. Al-jourmouq: the short boot worn over a shoe, keeping it from mud and other; plural jouramiq; called mawkh; arabized, for jim and qaf meet not in an Arab word save arabized or sound-mimicry, as al-jardaqa: the loaf. An-Nawawi said: jourmouq is not absolutely shoe over shoe, but something like a shoe worn over in cold lands: what is worn in the shoe. Among jurists generally: shoe over shoe, the wiping-on ruling depending on shoe over shoe.
