📖 2 min readWith kha fatha and ra sukun: it is the estimate and appraisal; estimating what the palm-heads hold of fresh dates: how much of it will be ripe dates; likewise the vine of grapes: how much will be raisins. Applied to fruit’s estimating; kharss: the estimated, as naqs of manqous. An-Nawawi said: what is on the palms of fresh dates was estimated ripe dates. The lie; hence His word: « slain be the liars ».
In lying; hence Allah’s word: « if you obey most on earth, they lead you astray from Allah’s path: they follow but conjecture and merely estimate » (al-An’am 116). Of the thing: estimating, measuring by conjecture. Said: palms and vines estimated: their fresh dates as ripe, grapes as raisins: he is khariss; plural kharass.

Fruit’s estimating; kharss for kharous as naqs for manqous. Said: kharss is the lie; its reality every word issuing conjecture and estimation called kharss, matching or differing, its speaker saying it not by knowledge nor predominant conjecture.
With fatha it is estimating; with kasra, the estimated measure. Ar-Raghib said: it is the fruit’s guarded one.
