Definition Madba

Madba according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

It is food prepared for an invitation; in the hadith: "This Book is Allah's banquet (ma'daba)".

Madba according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

With damma of the dal, the more widespread usage; some permitted fatha: any food prepared for an invitation or a wedding. Sibawayh said: al-ma'daba and al-mad'uwa; in the noble hadith from Ibn Mas'ud: "This Quran is Allah's banquet upon the earth, so learn from his banquet", meaning his invitations. Abu 'Ubayd said: the hadith's meaning is that he likened the Quran to what Allah prepared for the people, wherein is good and benefit, then invited them to it. Abu Musa al-Hamid said: whoever says it with damma intends the feast, and with fatha Allah's discipline by which He disciplined His servant. With the Malikis, the Shafi'is and the Ibadis: food prepared without cause. With the Hanbalis: the name of every invitation, with cause or without.
