Definition Mandub

Mandub according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

He over whom one cries in mourning with « ya » or « wa ». Among the faqihs: the act which, in the Lawgiver’s view, is preferred over its omission, the omission remaining permitted.

Mandub according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

Among grammarians: the noun cried over for the presence or absence of its referent, by ya or wa. In fiqh terminology: that whose performance is preferred over omission in the Lawgiver’s view, the omission also remaining permitted.

Mandub according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

Lexically: nadab is the call; one says: I called him to such and he answered the call. The mandoub: those summoned. The poet said: « they ask not their brother when summoned, in calamities, of what he had said ». Hence the hadith: « Allah summons him who goes forth in His path ».
