Definition Musnad

Musnad according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

Name of asanda, verb or report, single word or sentence. The mousnad among the masters of hadith usul: whose chain runs connected to the Messenger; of three kinds: the mutawatir, the machhour and the ahad.

Musnad according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

Lexically: passive name of asanda meaning annexing and attaching what has continuous chain, said al-Baji. In the traditionists’ terminology: what whose chain reaches its end, most used of what comes from the Prophet. Said: what comes from the Prophet alone, connected or cut. Said: employed only of the connected marfou’. Al-mousinna, with damma of mim and kasra of mute sin then doubled noun: the girl of four years, the word of Ibn Habib and Abd al-Wahhab. In az-Zarqani’s commentary on the Mouwatta: she entering her third year; said: the fourth; said: the mousinn and mousinna: of two full years.
