Definition Sahabi

Sahabi according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

By usage: he who saw the Prophet and whose company with him lasted, even if he related nothing from him. It is also said: even if it did not last.

Sahabi according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

He who saw the Prophet and whose company with him lasted, even if he related nothing from him. Also said: even if it did not last; but faith and death therein are a condition by consensus.

Sahabi according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

By usage: he who saw the Prophet and whose company lasted, even without relating from him, per al-Jourjani. By the people of hadith and the majority of scholars, later and earlier, and the sound view of Shafi’ites, Hanbalites and Ibadites: every Muslim who saw the Prophet, in his company or not. By Sa’id ibn al-Moussayyab: he who stayed with the Prophet a year or more, or campaigned with him. Among the Malikites: he who gathered with the Prophet in his lifetime, believing in him, and died thereon. By some usulists: he who met the Prophet in islam and died on islam, or met him before prophethood and died before it on the hanif way, as Zayd ibn Amr ibn Noufayl, or apostatized and returned in his lifetime.

Sahabi according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

Every Muslim who saw the Messenger of Allah.

Sahabi according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)

He who met the Prophet believing in him and died on faith.
