📖 2 min readOne who works for another for a fee, in selling or buying; in common usage he is called the dallal (broker), as in Jama' al-Husni.
An intermediary, a seller and buyer, and an agent for either of the two; from Persian sipsar.
With sukun of the first sin and sukun of the second: an agent noun from samsara (see: samsara); the intermediary between seller and buyer, that is, the dallal (broker). As-samsara, with sukun of the mim: masdar of samsara; brokerage: a profession whose practitioner is the go-between of seller and buyer. As-sam', with fatha of the first letter and sukun of the second: masdar of sami'a; plural: asma'; the perceptive faculty in the ear by which sounds are caught (hearing). As-sum'a, with damma of the first letter and sukun of the second: fame, repute (fame, reputation): producing fine speech (such as Quran recitation, hadith recitation, poetry chanting, and the like) to draw people's gaze to the speaker. The difference between as-sum'a and riya' is that sum'a occurs in words and riya' in deeds.
