Definition Tajrid

Tajrid according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

Removing the all-other and the world from secret and heart: for no veil save cosmic forms and others printed in the heart’s essence; the secret toward them is like the bumps and scratches on the mirror’s surface, hindering its flatness and marring its purity.

Tajrid according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

Among sufis: removing the all-other and the world from secret and heart, no veil save cosmic forms and considerations printed in the heart’s essence. Tadjrid in rhetoric: drawing from a thing described by an attribute another like it therein, exaggerating that attribute’s perfection in the thing; as their word: so-and-so is my friend, or a lion: drawn from the described thing of friendship or courage another, the friend or lion, like so-and-so in friendship or courage, exaggerating its perfection in him; the word « of » in their word is called tadjridiya. Tadjrid is also the name of a kalam text by at-Toussi, fine organizer.
