Definition Ta'lif

Ta'lif according to Mufradat (Ar-Raghib)

It is joining the proportionate things, from alifa, intimacy; real in bodies, figurative in letters.

Ta'lif according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

It is making the many things such that the name of the one applies to them, whether some parts relate to others by precedence and succession or not; it is wider than order, which is setting each thing in its rank.
