Part of: The Year 1 of the Hijra: the Arrival in Medina and the Foundations of the City
Born in this blessed year, the first of the Hijra: Abdallah ibn az-Zoubayr, the first child born in Islam after the emigration, as reported by the Boukhari from his mother Asma and his aunt Aïcha, mother of the believers, both daughters of the Truthful One; some say Nou’man ibn Bachir was born six months before him, which would make Abdallah ibn az-Zoubayr the first-born of the emigrants only; and others say the two were born in the second year: the apparent is the first view, as we have explained. It is also said that al-Moukhtar ibn Abi Oubayd and Ziyad ibn Soumayan were born in this first year. Allah is most knowing.
There died in this first year, among the companions: Koulthoum ibn Hidm al-Awsi, with whom the Messenger of Allah lodged at Qouba until he moved from it to the house of the Banu an-Najjar; then after him Abou Oumama As’ad ibn Zurara, leader of the Banu an-Najjar, who died while the Messenger of Allah was building the mosque. Ibn Jarir reports that in this year Abou Ouhaïha died at Ta’if with his wealth, and that al-Walid ibn al-Moughira and al-As ibn Wa’il as-Sahmi also died, at Mecca. We say: these died in their unbelief, never having embraced Islam.
