📖 1 min readThe Abaser is one of the 99 beautiful names of Allah. Its meaning: The One who lowers whom He wills in perfect justice.
To pronounce the name The Abaser in Arabic, we say: Al-Khafid.
It is written in Arabic: الخافض.
From the Arabic root خ-ف-ض (kh-f-d, to lower), خَافِض (khafid) is the active participle فَاعِل, the one who lowers whom He wills with justice.
The Name “The Abaser” means: The One who lowers whom He wills in perfect justice. It affirms a perfection belonging to Allah without defect, limit, or resemblance to creation. In al-Ghazali’s perspective, the believer never claims to share the divine attribute in its reality; instead, the Name gives an orientation suited to the condition of a servant.
Meditating on this Name calls the believer to act fairly, restore rights, and begin by judging one's own conduct honestly. Knowledge of the Name thereby becomes worship, refinement of character, and trust in Allah alone.
