📖 1 min readThe Firm is one of the 99 beautiful names of Allah. Its meaning: The One whose power is perfect, firm, and inexhaustible.
To pronounce the name The Firm in Arabic, we say: Al-Matin.
It is written in Arabic: المتين.
From the Arabic root م-ت-ن (m-t-n, firmness), on the pattern فَعِيل (fa'il), it denotes unshakable strength, solidity, and constancy.
The Name “The Firm” means: The One whose power is perfect, firm, and inexhaustible. It affirms a perfection belonging to Allah without defect, limit, or resemblance to creation. In al-Ghazali’s perspective, the believer never claims to share the divine attribute in its reality; instead, the Name gives an orientation suited to the condition of a servant.
Meditating on this Name calls the believer to renounce pride, struggle against the passions, and trust Allah's power rather than personal means. Knowledge of the Name thereby becomes worship, refinement of character, and trust in Allah alone.
