📖 1 min readThe Governor is one of the 99 beautiful names of Allah. Its meaning: The One who administers and governs all the affairs of creation.
To pronounce the name The Governor in Arabic, we say: Al-Waali.
It is written in Arabic: الوالي.
From the Arabic root و-ل-ي (w-l-y, authority and governance), وَالِي (waali) is the active participle فَاعِل, the one who governs every affair.
The Name “The Governor” means: The One who administers and governs all the affairs of creation. It affirms a perfection belonging to Allah without defect, limit, or resemblance to creation. In al-Ghazali’s perspective, the believer never claims to share the divine attribute in its reality; instead, the Name gives an orientation suited to the condition of a servant.
Meditating on this Name calls the believer to govern the passions, exercise responsibility justly, and remember that all authority truly belongs to Allah. Knowledge of the Name thereby becomes worship, refinement of character, and trust in Allah alone.
