📖 1 min readThe Most Exalted is one of the 99 beautiful names of Allah. Its meaning: The One exalted beyond every resemblance to created beings.
To pronounce the name The Most Exalted in Arabic, we say: Al-Muta'ali.
It is written in Arabic: المتعالي.
From the Arabic root ع-ل-و ('-l-w, height and exaltation), مُتَعَالِي (muta'ali) is the Form VI active participle, denoting supreme transcendence.
The Name “The Most Exalted” means: The One exalted beyond every resemblance to created beings. It affirms a perfection belonging to Allah without defect, limit, or resemblance to creation. In al-Ghazali’s perspective, the believer never claims to share the divine attribute in its reality; instead, the Name gives an orientation suited to the condition of a servant.
Meditating on this Name calls the believer to raise aspiration above the passions while remaining humble toward creation. Knowledge of the Name thereby becomes worship, refinement of character, and trust in Allah alone.
