📖 1 min readThe Most Holy is one of the 99 beautiful names of Allah. Its meaning: The One exalted above every defect and imperfection.
To pronounce the name The Most Holy in Arabic, we say: Al-Quddus.
It is written in Arabic: القدوس.
From the Arabic root ق-د-س (q-d-s, purity and holiness), on the intensive pattern فُعُّول (fu''ul), it denotes absolute freedom from every defect.
The Name “The Most Holy” means: The One exalted above every defect and imperfection. It affirms a perfection belonging to Allah without defect, limit, or resemblance to creation. In al-Ghazali’s perspective, the believer never claims to share the divine attribute in its reality; instead, the Name gives an orientation suited to the condition of a servant.
Meditating on this Name calls the believer to grow in reverence and humility, never ascribing to creation what belongs only to the Creator. Knowledge of the Name thereby becomes worship, refinement of character, and trust in Allah alone.
