📖 1 min readThe Reckoner and Sufficient One is one of the 99 beautiful names of Allah. Its meaning: The One sufficient for His servants who takes exact account of all things.
To pronounce the name The Reckoner and Sufficient One in Arabic, we say: Al-Hasib.
It is written in Arabic: الحسيب.
From the Arabic root ح-س-ب (h-s-b, counting and sufficiency), on the pattern فَعِيل (fa'il), it denotes both the exact reckoner and the one sufficient for all.
The Name “The Reckoner and Sufficient One” means: The One sufficient for His servants who takes exact account of all things. It affirms a perfection belonging to Allah without defect, limit, or resemblance to creation. In al-Ghazali’s perspective, the believer never claims to share the divine attribute in its reality; instead, the Name gives an orientation suited to the condition of a servant.
Meditating on this Name calls the believer to seek refuge in Allah, become trustworthy, and protect every right placed in one's care. Knowledge of the Name thereby becomes worship, refinement of character, and trust in Allah alone.
