📖 1 min readThe Supremely Great is one of the 99 beautiful names of Allah. Its meaning: The One to whom absolute greatness and majesty alone belong.
To pronounce the name The Supremely Great in Arabic, we say: Al-Mutakabbir.
It is written in Arabic: المتكبر.
From the Arabic root ك-ب-ر (k-b-r, greatness), مُتَكَبِّر (mutakabbir) is the Form V active participle, denoting one supremely above all deficiency.
The Name “The Supremely Great” means: The One to whom absolute greatness and majesty alone belong. It affirms a perfection belonging to Allah without defect, limit, or resemblance to creation. In al-Ghazali’s perspective, the believer never claims to share the divine attribute in its reality; instead, the Name gives an orientation suited to the condition of a servant.
Meditating on this Name calls the believer to grow in reverence and humility, never ascribing to creation what belongs only to the Creator. Knowledge of the Name thereby becomes worship, refinement of character, and trust in Allah alone.
