Fatima bint Asad Fatima bint Asad bin Hashim bin Abd Manaf, the Hashemite Qurayshi, the mother of Ali bin Abi Talib, and the mother of his brothers Talib, Aqeel, and Jaafar. Another report states: She died before the migration. It is nothing, and the correct view is that she migrated to Medina and died there. Al-Sha'bi said: Ali's mother, Fatima bint Asad, converted to Islam and migrated to Medina and died there (1). Al-A'mash narrated, on the authority of Amr bin Murrah, on the authority of Abu Al-Buhtari, on the authority of Ali, who said (2): I said to my mother Fatima bint Asad: It is enough for Fatima, daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, to provide water and go. In need, and the income is sufficient for you: grinding and kneading. This indicates her emigration, because Ali only married Fatima to Medina.

Al-Zuhri said: She is the first Hashemite woman to give birth to a Hashemi. She is also the first Hashemite woman to give birth to a caliph, then after her Fatima, daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, peace and blessings be upon her, gave birth to Al-Hasan, then Zubaida, the wife of Al-Rashid, gave birth to Al-Amin. We do not know of anyone else. Then the caliphate was not prescribed for these three. As for Ali, things were in turmoil for him until he was killed, which is well known, and as for Al-Hasan and Al-Amin, they were deposed.

Reported by Abu Al-Faraj bin Abi Raja, on the authority of Abu Bakr bin Abi Asim, who said: Abdullah bin Shabib bin Khalid Al-Qaisi told us (3), Yahya bin Ibrahim bin Hani told us, Husayn bin Zaid bin Ali told us, on the authority of Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Omar bin Ali, on the authority of his father: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, shrouded Fatima bint Asad in his shirt, and lay in her grave, and rewarded her well. He narrated something similar on the authority of Ibn Abbas, and added, "They said: We have not seen you do to anyone what you did to this woman!" He said: After Abu Talib, there has never been a more honorable person to me than her. I only dressed her in my shirt to cover her with some of the garments of Paradise. I lay in her grave to make the torment of the grave easier for her. Al-Zubair said: Asad bin Hashim's offspring died out, except for his daughter Fatima bint Asad (4). The three took her out.
