Definition Aghtab

Aghtab according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

Someone: mentioning his faults behind his back, faults that he conceals, and whose mention displeases him. And in the noble Quran: ﴿ And do not backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it ﴾ (Al-Hujurat: 12). To be absent: to be absent. The matter became hidden from him: it was concealed. The absent: active participle. Plural: ghuyub, ghiyab, and ghuyub. In the terminology of the jurists: he is the one whose location is known (Al-Dasuqi). The deep depression: the grave. The trees: their roots. The depths: the depths of everything. Everything that conceals something. The unseen: the opposite of the visible. And in the noble Quran: ﴿ And say: Work, for Allah will see your work, and His Messenger and the believers, and you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the visible, and He will inform you of what you used to do ﴾ (At-Tawbah: 105). Plural: 'uyub. Everything that is absent from man, whether acquired in the hearts or not. And in the Mighty Book: ﴿ You only warn one who follows the Reminder and fears the Most Merciful unseen. So give him good tidings of forgiveness and a noble reward ﴾ (Ya-Sin: 11), meaning: he feared Allah where he is not seen. As for the unseen in the noble verse: ﴿ This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah * Who believe in the unseen ﴾ (Al-Baqarah: 2-3), it is Allah the Almighty, because He is not seen in the abode of this world, but rather His signs pointing to Him are seen. And it was said: the unseen: that which is absent from people of what the Prophet ﷺ informed them about of the angels, Paradise, Hell, and the reckoning. Doubt. Distance: remoteness and concealment. Backbiting: it is to mention your brother behind his back with faults that he conceals, and whose mention displeases him: if it is true, it is called backbiting. And if it is false, it is called calumny. By consensus of the Muslims: it is your mentioning your brother with that which he dislikes (Al-Ghazali, and An-Nawawi transmitted it in Al-Adhkar).
