📖 2 min readAl-ashadd: completion. One says: he reached his ashadd (his strongest): he became complete and reached his full strength. In the Noble Revelation: 'And when he reached his maturity (ashuddah), We gave him judgment and knowledge. Thus do We reward the doers of good' (Yusuf, 22); the word is in the plural form with a singular meaning, and no singular is known for it. Ash-shadd: the pulling; the time of the rising of the day and the forenoon (duha). Ash-shiddah: the matter hard to bear; the hardship of life and its straitness. Ash-shadid: the strong; the difficult; one says: shadid al-quwwah (of immense strength): of great power. In the Noble Book: 'He was taught by One of immense strength (shadid al-quwa)' (An-Najm, 5), that is: Jibril (peace be upon him). The obstinate; the miserly. In the Noble Quran: 'and man is very intense (shadid) in his love of wealth' (Al-'Adiyat, 8) (plural: shidad, ashidda; the feminines: shidad, shada'id).
