Al-atbaʿ according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

In language: following after the first; hence walking behind another, and hence following funeral processions and claiming the due, as in the verse: 'to whom remission is made by his brother, let there be then the following-up (ittiba') in fairness.'
