Al-brhan al-tṭbyqy according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

It is to suppose, starting from the final effect onwards to infinity, a set, and starting from the one preceding it, by one unit for example, onwards to infinity, another set, then to superimpose the two sets by placing the first of the first set opposite the first of the second set, the second with the second, and so on. If opposite each one of the first there is one of the second, then the lesser would be like the greater, which is absurd. If not, then there may be found in the first that to which nothing corresponds in the second, so the second is cut off and reaches an end, which entails the finitude of the first, because it does not exceed the second by an infinite amount, and that which exceeds the finite by a finite amount is necessarily finite.
