📖 1 min readThat whose text is free from stylistic weakness, and its meaning from contradicting a verse, a mass-transmitted report, or a consensus, and whose transmission is through a trustworthy narrator. Its counterpart is the weak hadith.
That whose text is free from weakness and its meaning from contradicting a verse, a mass-transmitted report, or a consensus, and whose narrators are upright. And in contrast.
According to hadith scholars: it is that whose chain of transmission is uninterrupted, narrated by a trustworthy person from a trustworthy person from its beginning to its end, free from irregularity and hidden defect (Ibn as-Salah). According to jurisprudential usage: that which is not fabricated, even if there is some weakness in it, or it does not reach the grade of sound, let alone reaching the grade of authentic renowned among the hadith specialists (Atfayish).
