Al-iishʿaar according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

Notification and notifying the sacrificial camel consist of informing it by something that it is an offering, derived from al-shi'ar which is the sign. And the method of piercing the hump of the offering from its right side, and that is disliked according to Abu Hanifa may Allah be pleased with him, contrary to the other two.

Al-iishʿaar according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

In the language: notification, it is said: I informed him of such and such, meaning I made him know. And in terminology: notifying the sacrificial camel is to slit one of the sides of the hump of the sacrificial camel until its blood flows and to make that a sign by which it is known to be an offering, so that no one interferes with it. And some expressed it as: cutting the hump of the sacrificial camel. And some expressed it as: scraping the skin of the sacrificial camel. And notification also is: placing the garment adjacent to the body, as if it touches the hair, and in the hadith that he ﷺ said to the women washing his daughter
