📖 2 min readAn utterance free of the enunciative operators, predicated of what precedes it: expressed, as 'Zayd is standing', or implied, as in 'aqimu Zayd' (is-standing Zayd); it is said: the khabar is that upon which silence is permissible.
It is the speech admitting of truth and falsehood.
Language: the name of a speech made particular by a particular form, whereby knowledge of what is informed of is obtained, unlike indication and signification, for these are not speeches even though they inform; and unlike the command, the prohibition and the enquiry, for the form of the khabar is not realized in them. Al-khibra (kha with kasra or damma): the knowledge of the inward parts of things.
It is the bare utterance predicated of what precedes it, expressed or implied.

What is conveyed and reported: the speech admitting of truth and falsehood. The khabar, with the muhaddithun, is synonymous with hadith; it is said: distinct from it; and it is said: more general than it.
