Definition Al-lghw mn al-ymyn

Al-lghw mn al-ymyn according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

It is when one swears an oath regarding something while believing it to be so, whereas in reality it is not as he thinks, according to Abu Hanifah. Al-Shafi'i said: It is that which a man does not bind his heart to, such as his saying: No by Allah, and Yes by Allah.

Al-lghw mn al-ymyn according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

It is when one swears an oath regarding something while believing it to be so, whereas in reality it is not as he thinks, according to Abu Hanifah. Al-Shafi'i said: It is that upon which a man does not fasten his jaws, such as his saying: No by Allah and Yes by Allah. It has also been said: It is the oath for which one did not form the intention to fulfill, and it is what is uttered during speech without intention, such as swearing for another person to eat with you, or swearing that you are not hungry. Allah the Exalted said: ﴿Allah does not call you to account for what is unintentional in your oaths, but He calls you to account for what you have bound by your oaths﴾.

Al-lghw mn al-ymyn according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)

It is when one swears regarding something and thinks it is so, whereas in reality it is not as he thinks, according to Abu Hanifah, may Allah the Most High have mercy on him. And Al-Shafi'i, may Allah the Most High have mercy on him, said: It is that which a man does not bind his heart to, such as his saying: No by Allah, Yes by Allah.
