It is forbidden to consume any animal with talons, but not absolutely; rather, it refers to that which belongs to beasts of prey, just as it is forbidden to consume any animal with fangs among beasts of prey, not absolutely. Because the Prophet, upon whom be prayer and peace, forbade the consumption of every bird with talons and every beast of prey with fangs. His statement, upon whom be prayer and peace, "from the beasts of prey" coming after the two types, refers to both of them and thus encompasses predatory birds and beasts due to the consumption of an animal with talons or fangs. The beast of prey is every snatching, plundering, wounding, killing creature accustomed to that, as found in Al-Hidayah.
