A name for what has been legislated in addition to obligations and duties. It has been said: Al-mustahabb (the recommended) is what Allah has encouraged without making it obligatory.

A name for what has been legislated in addition to the obligation and duties. It has been said: Al-mustahabb is what Allah has encouraged without making it obligatory. Al-mustahabb, voluntary acts, the sunnah, the good, and the nafl: it is an act of commission rather than omission, sought with a non-binding request. Ghayat al-wusul p. 11, and Al-ta'rifat p. 189.
