Al-ṣamʿaaʾ according to An-Nihaya (Ibn al-Athir)

The plant (baqla) that has drunk and become laden with water.

Al-ṣamʿaaʾ according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

(Among blessings): one whose ears are very small, for 'sam'' denotes the adhesion of the ears and their smallness; whatever is joined is 'sam'', and from this is derived 'sawma'' (the monastery) of the Christians, plural sawami'. Likewise 'asma'' means 'it was pure (zaka)'. [al-Misbah al-munir (s-m-') p. 133, al-Kawakib al-durriyya 2/59].
