Al-ṭiyaraa according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

Like al-khyara: a verbal noun derived from tayr, and no other verbal noun comes on this pattern except these two.

Al-ṭiyaraa according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

- With a kasra on the unpointed ta and a fatha on the subscript ya -: Pessimism regarding something. Its origin is that during the pre-Islamic period, when someone went out for a need, if they saw a bird fly to their right, they took it as a good omen and proceeded, and if it flew to their left, they took it as a bad omen and returned. Sometimes they would provoke the bird to make it fly, doing so intentionally, and it would mostly work out for them because Satan made that appealing to them. Remnants of this remained among many Muslims, so the Law prohibited it. And al-tiyara is that from which a bad omen is derived from a bad augury. And in the hadith from him ﷺ: "That he used to love the good omen and dislike al-tiyara"

Al-ṭiyaraa according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)

Al-Sayyid said: "The good omen (al-fa'l) is general regarding what pleases and what distresses, whereas al-tiyara concerns only what distresses."
