Definition Al-wdj

Al-wdj according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

With full vowelling (tahrik): the singular of awda, the veins surrounding the neck which the slaughterman cuts. Al-wadjan: the two thick veins on either side of the slit of the slaughter; in the hadith: 'kullu ma afra l-awda' (whatever makes the jugular veins flow).

Al-wdj according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

'Wadja ad-dabbata wadjan': to cut it, severing its wadj. 'Wadja bayna l-qawm': he made peace, cut off the evil, and ended it. Al-widaj: a vein in the neck, the one the slaughterman cuts, after which life does not remain. Al-wadaj: the two wadj veins, the two being wadjan. Plural: awda. Al-wadid: the wadj.
