Definition Al-wariyd

Al-wariyd according to An-Nihaya (Ibn al-Athir)

A vein in the neck; it is also the cord; it was annexed to itself because of the two words' difference.

Al-wariyd according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

A vein like the artery, except that it rises from the liver.

Al-wariyd in the Quran

﴿وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ وَنَعْلَمُ مَا تُوَسْوِسُ بِهِۦ نَفْسُهُۥ ۖ وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ حَبْلِ ٱلْوَرِيدِ﴾

« And We have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein »
