Definition Al-wtr

Al-wtr according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

With fatha: in language, the odd of number, what has not been paired by its like; its utmost is as its pair. In geometry: the watr is one of the sides of the triangle; it is also applied to the line passing through the center of the circle insofar as it divides it by it into two halves, as passed under 'qutr' (the diameter), which is the line passing through the circle's center insofar as it passes to it; the difference between the diameter and the watr is by consideration. In 'Hall al-Rumuz', the abridged commentary on 'al-Wiqaya': the watr, with kasra or fatha of the waw and sukun or kasra of the ta; the first of each is the well-known, the counterpart of the even (shaf'). In the Sharia: the watr denotes three rak'as; it was so named because it is the counterpart of the even. Al-Hasan reported that three is agreed upon, as if he meant a consensus established by a single-transmitter report, otherwise there would be no scope for ijtihad in it; and it has been said: one rak'a up to thirteen, as in the books of hadith.

Al-wtr according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

(With kasra or fatha of the waw): one of the names of Allah, the Most High: the Singular, the Odd, the counterpart of the even; by it is meant the known night prayer; one says: 'autarta': he prayed the witr. In the hadith: 'when you have performed istijmar, then pray witr.'

Al-wtr according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

Of the bow: 'wattara-hu watran': he made it a string. : So-and-so, of his due or wealth: he diminished it of him. In the noble Quran: 'so do not weaken and call for peace while you are superior; and Allah is with you and will not deprive you of your deeds' (Muhammad, 35), that is, He will not diminish the reward of your deeds. : He seized him by what he hates. : He alarmed him. : Of number: he made it odd. : Of prayer: he made it odd. (The waw may also be opened.)
