Definition Arid

Arid according to An-Nihaya (Ibn al-Athir)

The cloud crossing the sky’s horizon.

Arid according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

Of the thing: what is attributed to it coming from outside, as laughter for man; wider than ’arad, for substance is said ’arid not ’arad, as the corporeal form: said to supervene upon prime matter.

Arid according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

Of the thing: its side, turning from it. Of so-and-so: doing like his deed. Of the thing by the thing: catching it thereby.

Arid according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

Of the thing: what is attributed to it from outside. Al-’arid wider than ’arad, for substance is said ’arid, as the form supervening upon matter, without saying ’arad.
