Definition Athar

Athar according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

It has three meanings: the first, consequence, the outcome of the thing; the second, the sign; the third, the part.

Athar according to An-Nihaya (Ibn al-Athir)

« the trace of their hands therein ». The root of namach: white and black dots in colour; and a spotted bull, with kasra of the mim.

Athar according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

The occurrence of what attests the thing’s existence; the consequence. I atharthou the hadith: I transmitted it.

Athar according to Mu'jam Lughat al-Fuqaha

From atara, plural athar: what remains of the thing’s form.

Athar according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)

As-Sayyid said: it has three meanings: the first, consequence, the thing’s outcome; the second, the sign; the third, the report.
