Definition Jza

Jza according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

To suffice (jaza) for a thing as a jaza': to be enough for someone and spare him the need for it. In the Noble Quran: 'And fear a Day when no soul will suffice for another soul at all' (Al-Baqarah, 48 and 123). To requite (jaza) someone with such and such, or requite him for it: to reward him. In the sacred hadith: 'Fasting is for Me and I Myself grant its reward.' Jaza someone his due: to discharge it; hence the saying: 'may Allah reward him with good' (jazahu Allah khayran), that is: He gave him the reward of the obedience he had previously performed. Jaza the man in his stead (jaza al-rajul 'anhu): when he stood in his place.
