📖 2 min readKhada'a someone, in mukhad'ah or khida'an: to deceive him. In the Noble Quran: 'And of the people are those who say: we believe in Allah and in the Last Day, while they are not believers. They seek to deceive Allah and those who believe, but they deceive none but themselves, though they are unaware' (Al-Baqarah, 8-9). Al-akhd': one of the two sinews on either side of the neck: they are the akhd'an. Al-khad'ah: the occasion of deception. Al-khud'ah: that by which a person deceives; hence the noble hadith: 'War is deception (khud'ah),' that is: it is the instrument of deceit, or it deceives, and when one of the two parties deceives the other it is as though it had been deceived. Plural: khud'. Ibn al-Munir said: 'War is deception' means that the war which is good for its author and achieves its aim is deception (mukhadah), not confrontation; that is because of the danger of confrontation, and victory is attained through deception without danger. Al-khud'ah: one who deceives much. Al-khadi'ah: to harm him from where he does not know; cunning (makr). Al-makhda': the small chamber inside the large house (plural: makhadi'); the storeroom.
