Definition Tsnn

Tsnn according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

Against his enemy: he went straight ahead. And: he adopted the sunna and acted upon it. The sinn: a piece of bone that grows in the jaw and it is feminine, plural asnan and asunn. And: age. The sanan: the way. In the noble hadith: You will surely follow the ways of those who were before you, span by span and cubit by cubit, even if they entered the hole of a lizard, you would follow them. We said: O Messenger of Allah, the Jews and the Christians? He said: Who else? Iyad said: The span, the cubit, the way, and entering the hole is a representation of emulating them in everything that the Law forbade and blamed. And: the face of the earth. The sanan: the sanan. And: plural of sunnah. The sunan: the sunan. The sunnah: the way. In the noble hadith: Whoever turns away from my sunnah is not of me. And the intended meaning is: whoever abandons my way and adopts the way of another is not of me, plural sunan. And: the conduct, whether praiseworthy or blameworthy. And: nature and character. And: the face. And from Allah: His decree regarding His creation. And in the noble Quran: ﴿If the hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is a disease, and the alarmists in Madinah do not cease, We will surely incite you against them, then they will not remain your neighbors therein except for a little while, * Accursed wherever they are found, they will be seized and massacred completely, * The sunnah of Allah concerning those who passed away before, and you will never find any change in the sunnah of Allah﴾ (Al-Ahzab: 60-62), meaning: this is the sunnah of Allah the Exalted concerning the hypocrites when they rebel in their hypocrisy and disbelief and do not return from what they are upon, that the people of faith are empowered over them and defeat them, and the sunnah of Allah in that is not changed nor altered. And from the Prophet: what is attributed to him of speech, action, or approval, and therefore it is said: the proofs of the Law are the Book and the sunnah. And in the Law: what the Messenger of Allah legislated as speech, action, or approval. And: what the Prophet commanded, forbade, and recommended, from that which the Mighty Book did not utter (Al-Baqli). And according to the terminology of the scholars of fundamentals and hadith: what came from the Prophet of his sayings, actions, approvals, and what he intended to do (Ibn Hajar). And in the Law: the path followed in religion without being an obligation or a duty, and it is what the Prophet maintained continuously while omitting it sometimes (Al-Jurjani). And according to the terminology of the scholars of fundamentals: that whose desirability is proven by evidence, without sin upon the one who abandons it (Ibn Hajar). And in the convention of the Law: applied to that which opposes the obligatory (Al-Husayn Al-San`ani). Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said: The sunnah is the legal path, and it is broader than the obligatory and the recommended, and it is often applied to the prescribed, and naming that which is below the obligatory as a sunnah is a recent terminology. And in acts of worship by terminology: the supererogatory prayer (Ibn Abidin). And among the Hanafis: what the Messenger of Allah or the Rightly Guided Caliphs after him maintained continuously, without prohibiting its omission. And: what one is rewarded for doing and blamed for abandoning. And: what is proven by his saying or action, and is not obligatory nor recommended. And among the Shafiis: that whose performance is preferable to its omission, and there is no sin in omitting it. And the sunnah, the mandoub, the tatawwu`, the nafl, the mugharrab fihi, and the mustahabb all have the same meaning.
