Definition of Faqd

Al-Faqd refers to the loss of something, the deprivation of what existed.

The Almighty says: 'What is it you are missing?' (Yusuf 71), and: 'And knows that his father has lost him' (Yusuf 8).

Al-fāqid is one who has lost someone.

Surah Yusuf : 72 Meccan

﴿قَالُوا۟ نَفْقِدُ صُوَاعَ ٱلْمَلِكِ وَلِمَن جَآءَ بِهِۦ حِمْلُ بَعِيرٍ وَأَنَا۠ بِهِۦ زَعِيمٌ﴾

They said, "We are missing the measure of the king. And for he who produces it is [the reward of] a camel's load, and I am responsible for it."

Surah An-Naml : 20 Meccan

﴿وَتَفَقَّدَ ٱلطَّيْرَ فَقَالَ مَا لِىَ لَآ أَرَى ٱلْهُدْهُدَ أَمْ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْغَآئِبِينَ﴾

And he took attendance of the birds and said, "Why do I not see the hoopoe - or is he among the absent?
