📖 1 min readThe Bestower is one of the 99 beautiful names of Allah. Its meaning: The One who gives abundantly without expecting any return.
To pronounce the name The Bestower in Arabic, we say: Al-Wahhab.
It is written in Arabic: الوهاب.
From the Arabic root و-ه-ب (w-h-b, to give freely), on the intensive pattern فَعَّال (fa''al), it denotes one who bestows gifts continually without return.
The Name “The Bestower” means: The One who gives abundantly without expecting any return. It affirms a perfection belonging to Allah without defect, limit, or resemblance to creation. In al-Ghazali’s perspective, the believer never claims to share the divine attribute in its reality; instead, the Name gives an orientation suited to the condition of a servant.
Meditating on this Name calls the believer to give without display, recognize every blessing as coming from Allah, and serve creation generously. Knowledge of the Name thereby becomes worship, refinement of character, and trust in Allah alone.
